The Yunnan Charity Federation and Tencent Charity Foundation recently co-hosted a conference titled “Tech for Good: Co-Building a New Digital Ecosystem for Disaster Preparedness and Relief”, which brought together over 120 participants. Attendees included scholars from Beijing Normal University and the Guangzhou Institute, government officials, leading charities, and socially responsible enterprises.
At the event, the “2025 Digital Disaster Preparedness and Relief Support System” initiative was officially launched. This digital platform that is designed to help frontline organisations better mobilise resources to support people in need. The Yunnan Charity Federation also announced the launch of its Yunnan Digital Disaster Preparedness Project, which centres on community needs by connecting local residents with charities, social workers, and digital infrastructure to enhance grassroots resilience during emergencies.
Wang Shufen，President of the Yunnan Charity Federation, emphasized that integrating philanthropy with digitalisation can improve both the precision and speed of emergency response. She highlighted that initiatives like “Watch Project: Happy Homeland” are already exploring new pathways for community-based digital philanthropy in Yunnan.
Prof. Wang Zhenyao from Beijing Normal University described the digitalisation of disaster relief as a significant innovation in public service, one that improves aid delivery and allows it to be more responsive to diverse needs. During the conference, platform designers and researchers shared their experiences with digital innovation and cross-sector collaboration, while organizations such as the China Social Relief Foundation and corporate partners like the Decathlon Foundation presented best practices.
By leveraging funding, technology, and digital networks, the “2025 Digital Disaster Preparedness and Relief System” aims to build a more inclusive and collaborative philanthropic ecosystem—one capable of delivering emergency relief more efficiently to affected communities.
