Abstract : Modelling claim frequency and severity for non life insurance pricing predominantly relies on generalised linear models, with gradient boosted machines as the leading machine learning alternative. Tabular foundation models (TFMs) offer a fundamentally different paradigm. By pre training on large collections of synthetic datasets, TFMs enable inference on new data through in context learning, without any dataset specific fitting or hyperparameter tuning. This paper presents a first empirical evaluation of TabPFN for motor insurance pricing, benchmarking it against GLM and XGBoost on two publicly available MTPL datasets. Our results show that TabPFN does not consistently outperform established baselines, exhibits substantially longer inference times, and is sensitive to the size of the in context training set. While tabular foundation models represent a promising direction, particularly in data scarce settings, their current formulation does not offer a viable replacement for established actuarial methods.

Abstract : Decentraland, a decentralized virtual reality platform operating within the expanding Metaverse ecosystem, utilizes its native MANA token to facilitate virtual asset transactions and governance. This study investigates the integration of Discord community sentiment with multi modal financial data to enhance cryptocurrency price prediction within virtual world economies. We address (1) identifying sentiment patterns within Decentraland s Discord community, and (2) evaluating the impact of multi modal features on token return forecasting. Using a BERT based large language model for sentiment analysis, we develop two LSTM architectures a baseline incorporating historical prices and a multi modal variant integrating sentiment scores, trading volume, and market capitalization. Results indicate predominantly neutral community sentiment with a positive skew. The multi modal model significantly outperforms the price only baseline in prediction accuracy. These findings demonstrate the predictive value of community derived signals for virtual economy forecasting and establish a foundation for future research at the intersection of immersive virtual environments, natural language processing, and cryptocurrency market analysis.

Abstract : We introduce When Alpha Disappears, a paired evaluation benchmark for diagnosing decision time leakage in financial machine learning backtests. Rather than treating leakage as a binary property, the benchmark estimates protocol induced inflation by toggling one evaluation convention at a time around a clean t 1 open reference, while holding the data panel, walk forward split, model family, horizon, portfolio rule, and cost convention fixed. Across two daily OHLCV equity panels, six model families, and yearly tests from 2016 2024, we find that inflation is highly selective centered temporal features and same day open execution with post open daily bar information cause large and stable increases in both predictive and trading metrics, whereas global normalization, future informed graph structure, and same day close execution are weak in most settings. The benchmark is diagnostic rather than a claim of tradable alpha, and is intended to make evaluation assumptions, failure modes, and protocol fragility directly measurable.

Abstract : This research aims to leverage machine learning to improve stock price prediction and support informed investment decisions related to buying, selling, and holding assets. Specifically, this work investigates transformer based models for stock prediction and examines the impact of pre training strategies on forecasting performance. A transformer model was first pre trained on the Toronto Stock Exchange Index (TSX) to predict intra day return direction and subsequently fine tuned on individual TSX stocks. The model was further adapted for return value regression tasks. Performance was benchmarked against Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) and XGBoost models. Pre training on the market index improved the binary cross entropy loss for individual stock prediction from 0.69 to 0.64. The fine tuned transformer regression model achieved lower mean squared error than the benchmark models, although the ensemble and XGBoost models achieved higher average daily returns. In addition, a practical application was developed to deliver real time stock predictions for trading support. Future work will focus on increasing transformer model capacity, incorporating broader global technical indicators, and filtering out stocks with low predictability.

Abstract : We study the reconstruction of implied volatility surfaces from sparse and noisy option quotes using deep learning models under no arbitrage constraints. We compare multiple neural architectures, including multilayer perceptrons, convolutional networks, U Nets, variational autoencoders, and Transformer based models against classical SVI parameterizations on option market data. Results show that Transformer and U Net architectures achieve strong reconstruction accuracy, particularly under sparse observation regimes, while soft arbitrage penalties significantly reduce arbitrage violations with moderate impact on reconstruction error. We further analyze the trade off between accuracy and arbitrage consistency across architectures and regularization strengths.

Abstract : Deploying machine learning in regulated financial environments credit risk, fraud detection, and anti money laundering exposes critical vulnerabilities in algorithmic reproducibility. While early financial ML addressed statistical challenges such as backtest overfitting, deep neural networks and Generative AI have introduced mechanical nondeterminism rooted in hardware and architecture. This survey provides a systems perspective on reproducibility failures across three modalities now dominant in financial AI tabular models (post hoc explanation variance), graph networks (stochastic sampling and temporal asynchrony), and LLM based agentic workflows (batch dependent divergence and trajectory drift). We supplement the literature analysis with first party experiments on public financial datasets quantifying explanation rank instability in credit scoring, prediction flip rates in GNN based fraud detection, and tensor parallel induced output divergence in LLM entity extraction. We propose a layered evaluation framework linking modality specific metrics (RBO, D cos, TDI, PSD) to audit readiness, and empirically validate the complementarity of logit level and semantic level determinism measures.

Abstract : Predicting stock price movements during Earnings Announcements (EAs) is a significant challenge due to market noise and high impact price discontinuities. In this study, we evaluate whether pre announcement news sentiment, firm fundamentals, and recent market dynamics jointly predict the directional price movement of equities on EA days. We construct a multi modal feature space combining 15 fundamental metrics, 3 price based technical indicators and sentiment scores derived from financial news articles processed using FinBERT. We compare a Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) network and a Transformer based architecture against a logistic regression baseline, and further assess all models with and without sentiment features to quantify their incremental value. Our results indicate that while the LSTM demonstrates higher precision through a conservative safe bet strategy, the Transformer model exhibits superior sensitivity in identifying volatile movements, achieving a higher macro F1 score, with ablation experiments showing a consistent benefit from incorporating news sentiment.

Abstract : Motivated by the emergence of local groundwater exchanges, we construct and analyze stochastic models of dynamic groundwater markets. Our primary focus is endogenizing the price formation and groundwater pumping strategies in a closed market with stochastic groundwater allocations and opportunities for intertemporal transfer through rights banking. In our model, several agents, interpreted as farmers or agricultural districts, make competitive decisions on water consumption to produce a basket of goods, as well as on trading allocations among themselves, or banking them for future periods. We define the respective discrete time non zero sum non cooperative game and construct its sub game perfect Nash equilibria characterized by the groundwater price process p circ(t) . We furthermore construct an algorithm to determine equilibrium strategies and prices through a machine learning approach on top of best response iterations. Extensive numerical experiments illustrate dynamic phenomena, including the role of groundwater recharge dynamics, agents risk aversion and groundwater allocations. Our model provides insights into competitive effects in environmental markets with banking features.

Abstract : Transition related financial markets are increasingly exposed to abrupt repricing episodes, elevated volatility, and heterogeneous macro financial shocks. Under such conditions, conventional Gaussian linear forecasting frameworks may provide an incomplete representation of the dependence structure linking fossil energy, renewable energy, technology, and utility sector assets. This paper investigates whether transition related financial returns exhibit residual non linear predictability after controlling for heavy tailed multivariate linear dynamics. To address this question, we develop a hybrid forecasting framework combining Student t Vector Autoregressions with nonlinear recurrent residual learning architectures. The empirical analysis considers six major exchange traded funds representing broad equity markets and key transition sensitive sectors. The results reveal substantial departures from Gaussian linear behavior, including excess kurtosis, volatility clustering, and remaining nonlinear dependence after econometric filtering. Out of sample forecasting experiments show that the proposed framework consistently improves predictive accuracy relative to conventional VAR models, standalone machine learning methods, and alternative hybrid specifications. The forecasting gains become more pronounced during periods of macro financial stress, particularly during the COVID 19 crisis and the Ukraine related energy shock. Overall, the findings suggest that transition related financial systems exhibit regime sensitive and heavy tailed predictive dynamics that are insufficiently captured by standard Gaussian linear models alone.

Abstract : This study develops a regime aware portfolio allocation framework that integrates Markov switching models with Reinforcement Learning (RL) to dynamically allocate across equities (SPY), long term Treasuries (TLT), and gold (GLD). Using daily ETF data from 2004 2025, we first characterize market behavior through a discrete Markov chain and then estimate a three state Gaussian Hidden Markov Model (HMM) selected by the Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC). The estimated regimes low volatility, transitional, and high volatility exhibit strong persistence and state dependent return dynamics consistent with recent findings on nonlinear market states (Ardia et al., 2024 Gupta & Pierdzioch, 2023). State conditional analysis shows that SPY dominates in stable regimes, while TLT and GLD provide protection during stressed periods, motivating regime conditioned allocation rules.We evaluate rule based rotation and RL driven strategies using a 30 out of sample test window with a one day execution lag to avoid look ahead bias. Both HMM based allocations outperform a passive SPY benchmark, while the RL policy achieves the highest risk adjusted performance, delivering the strongest Sharpe ratio and materially lower drawdowns, yet remains fully interpretable through discrete regime dependent actions. Sensitivity analysis confirms the robustness of the three state specification relative to two state alternatives. Overall, the results demonstrate that RL can systematically enhance HMM based regime detection, providing a transparent, adaptive, and empirically grounded framework for tactical asset allocation. The combined HMM RL system provides a transparent, rules based approach to tactical allocation that improves risk adjusted performance relative to standard benchmark strategies.

Abstract : This study looks at the statistical properties and predictability using deep learning methods of the U.S. aggregate bond index in daily observations spanning 2018 to February 2026. We first establish that index levels are extremely persistent and consistent with unitroot behavior (Dickey and Fuller), while log returns are covariance stationary with weak linear dependence and pronounced volatility clustering characteristic of ARCH type processes (Engle Bollerslev). Motivated by the trade off between stationarity and information retention, we construct a stationary but maximally persistent representation via fractional differencing (Granger and Joyeux Hosking) following the procedure of L pez de Prado, and evaluate shorthorizon forecast using two neural paradigms (i) Multilayer Perceptrons (MLPs) trained on lagged vectors with joint lag length and hyperparameter tuning (Hornik et al. Rumelhart et al.) and (ii) Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) trained on Gramian Angular Field (GAF) image encodings (Wang and Oates). Empirically, MLPs match the strong naive persistence benchmark on levels, collapse toward near zero forecasts on returns, and achieve the strongest incremental performance on the fractionally differenced series, where moderate dependence remains but unit root drift is attenuated. In contrast, CNN GAF models deliver consistently negative out of sample R 2 across all three representations. Overall, the results imply that, for short horizon forecasting of broad bond indices, the primary determinant of predictive performance is the transformation of the series its degree of stationarity and memory rather than architectural complexity. Lag based models remain competitive under persistence, while GAFbased CNNs are better suited to pattern based tasks than to persistence dominated next step prediction.

Abstract : Traditional insurance pricing relies on risk based principles that ensure actuarial fairness and solvency but do not explicitly account for policyholders price sensitivity. We formulate insurance pricing as a decision making problem and study it using tools from off policy evaluation and stochastic control. We propose a kernelized inverse propensity score estimator that exploits local structure in the action space and yields variance reduction compared to the classical inverse propensity score estimator. Building on these value estimates, we investigate policy optimization and present two practical approaches for computing optimal pricing rules an interpretable data shared Lasso formulation and a flexible policy parameterization based on neural networks. Using a controlled synthetic travel insurance environment, we empirically confirm the theoretical results and show that neural networks outperform existing techniques for policy optimization.

Abstract : Portfolio optimization in real world financial markets is notoriously difficult due to non stationarity, noisy data, and high transaction costs. Standard predict then optimize methods first forecast returns and then solve for weights, compounding prediction errors and often failing under regime shifts. We propose an end to end framework that directly optimizes differentiable surrogates of key financial metrics Sharpe ratio, Omega ratio, Conditional Value at Risk (CVaR), and Risk Parity allowing neural networks to learn portfolio weights via backpropagation. Our expanding window walk forward procedure, applied to 50 S&P 500 stocks from 2007 to 2023, incorporates realistic bid ask spread costs and rebalances quarterly. On the challenging out of sample test period (2022 2023), the best model an AttentionLSTM with the Omega CVaR RiskParity loss achieves an annualized Sharpe of 0.29 and a total compounded return of 7.86 , while the S&P 500 delivers 4.52 total return and an annualized Sharpe of 0.02. This outperforms the S&P 500 by 12.38 percentage points (a relative improvement of over 270 ), while keeping tail risk (CVaR) nearly unchanged. The framework consistently outperforms the equal weight portfolio, S&P 500, and traditional methods (MVP, HRP, NCO), demonstrating that embedding financial objectives directly into model training yields robust, economically meaningful outperformance even in adverse market conditions.
