Dr. Xi Peng (彭曦) joined UD in 2019. He is holding three positions at UD：
Assistant Professor, Department of Computer & Information Sciences (CIS)
Resident Faculty, Data Science Institute (DSI)
Affiliate Faculty, Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN)
Dr. Peng is working on Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Computer Vision. His research has yielded more than 30 top conference papers (NeurIPS, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, AAAI, IJCAI, KDD), leading journal articles (TPAMI, TIP, IJCV, THMS), and multiple US patents. His work won the best paper award at the NeurIPS’21 MLPH workshop and the best student paper runner-up award at the ECCV’16. His research received awards and supports from NSF, CDC, Google Research, Snap Research, and multiple internal sponsors. Dr. Peng is ranked as the No.1 scholar at UD according to csrankings.org.
Dr. Peng is leading Deep-REAL (Deep Robust & Explainable AI Lab) and supervising 7 PhD students at this moment. We are interested in interdisciplinary research. Our mission is to develop robust, explainable, and flexible ML methods that address grand challenges in science and engineering domains. Our research topics include:
Machine Learning: (Robust Optimization; Explainable ML)
Scientific Machine Learning: (AI/ML + Climate Change)
Human-centered Computer Vision: (AI/ML + Biomechanics)

We are looking for 2 strong PhD students to work on the following areas:
Out-of-distribution generalization
Explainable machine learning
Computer vision: Pose Estimation, Action Recognition
